The groups

What each group does

Both groups share the barn, the garden and the schoolhouse. The jobs change with the age.

Younger group, ages 3 to 4

A first year on the farm. Children learn the barn rules, collect eggs with a grown-up and spend long stretches digging, pouring and watching.

  • Mornings from 8:30 am to 1:00 pm

  • Barn chores in pairs, with an adult beside them

  • Wear boots, long pants and layers you can take off

Older group, ages 4 to 5

The final year before kindergarten. Children take on bigger jobs: filling the water troughs, planting a bed from seed and keeping the garden journal.

  • Mornings from 8:30 am to 1:00 pm

  • Longer walks to the pasture and the woods edge

  • Wear boots, long pants and layers you can take off
