Our people

The adults you will meet at the barn gate

Two adults are with every group, and these are the ones at the gate most mornings.

  • Tallulah Jacobs, Director and lead teacher, seated on a log under an oak tree with the barn behind her

    Tallulah Jacobs

    Director and lead teacher

Tallulah grew up on her grandparents' farm in Robeson County and has taught young children for most of her working life. She leads Dogwood, teaches the older group and is the first adult at the barn each morning.

  • Nehemiah Sikes, Assistant teacher and farm educator, standing in a green apron by the climbing ladder in the yard

    Nehemiah Sikes

    Assistant teacher and farm educator

Nehemiah runs the barn routines and the garden mornings. He knows each hen by her habits and teaches the children to wash up as they leave every pen.

How the adults work

Every morning, the same way

  • Two adults with every group

One adult leads and one follows on every walk, and both carry a phone.

  • Hands washed alongside the children

Adults wash after every chore too, so children see it done and not only told.

  • A walk around the site first

Before children arrive, an adult checks the gates, the ground and the sky.

Come and meet us at the gate

A tour is a walk around the farm with the group on a school morning.
